The creative rhythm of the world seems to revolve around Fridays. I, like many others, make a point to check my Spotify, Disney +, Netflix, etc., for new additions each week. Today, my mind was drawn to this rhythm, which has been mechanical and monotonous, but doesn’t have to be.
What if I treated New Music Friday like a weekly watering of a plant? Rather than an automatic consumption of media, what if I stopped to pray for each piece of art and recognized the divine influence of Jesus? Today, I am delighting in the works of creators, so that I might be reminded of the ongoing work of our Creator.
Prayer for New Music Friday
Creator God, from the universe’s first burst of light, you have been in the business of making all things new. We see the evidence of this in new sprouts from the soil and the ever-changing breath circulating through our lungs. We are reminded of this today as our feeds refresh with new playlists, shows, podcasts, and songs. These pieces of art are a reflection of your perpetual goodness that allow us to see more clearly the image of God in our own creativity. We ask today that you allow us to see in everything a glimpse of your goodness, that we may be inspired to join in the great creation and recreation of the world, which your son Jesus Christ powerfully demonstrated through his resurrection. Moreover, we ask that you bless these creators, that they may see the holiness of their work and realize in themselves Christ’s resurrection power. All power and glory rest in you, God Almighty, the maker of heaven and earth, for whom David wrote Psalms and danced in the street. In the name of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, we pray. Amen.
